Test results

You can see most test results yourself online, once they have been added to your GP record.

See your results in the NHS App

You can view test results in the NHS App or by logging in to the NHS website. This is the quickest way to get your results. To see test results online, you must be aged 16 or over.

You will see:

  • results of tests you had at the surgery
  • hospital test results that have been sent to us

You will not see hospital results that have not been sent to us. The hospital may contact you about these, or tell you how to get them.

NHS website: view your test results

If you are new to the NHS App, see our managing your health online page.

How long results take

Different tests take different amounts of time. The person who does your test can tell you roughly when to expect the result. A doctor or other healthcare professional will look at your result when it comes back to us.

If you need to do something

You will normally see your results in the NHS App. If a result is abnormal and you need to do something, we will normally contact you.

If you see a result in the NHS App and you are not sure what it means or what to do, please contact us.

If you cannot use the NHS App

Please do not phone for results if you can see them online. If you cannot use the NHS App, you can ask us for your result:

Results for someone else

To protect your confidentiality, we only give results to the patient, unless other arrangements have been agreed in writing. If you help someone manage their health, see our managing someone else’s health page.
